Christmas 2020 Letter
On Tuesday Dec. 22nd, the volunteers of the Delta Christian Community Food Pantry (DCCFP) delivered to the communities of Byron, Knightsen and Bethel Island Christmas gifts.
There were many organizations and residents that donated their time and funds to this effort that we would like to recognize.
On Thursday Dec. 17th, two trucks traveled to the Contra Costa Food Bank located in Concord to pick up a special holiday package on a pallet about 5 feet high consisting primarily of canned goods. This was in addition to our normal pickup on Friday's.
On Saturday Dec. 19th, the Brentwood Regional Community Chest was doing their holiday give away to the community at Bentwood Elementary. From this event, the DCCFP received over 36 turkeys, 20 crates of milk and over 8 large bags of toys for the children.
Over the weekend, the DCCFP team also picked up 13 Advent boxes prepared by the students of All God's Children Christian school.
"Let us not become weary in doing good, for the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up." - Galatians 6:9
On Monday, the DCCFP team gathered at St. Anne's to receive the 105 Advent boxes that had been prepared by residents under the direction of the Byron Delta Lions Club. Each Advent box was wrapped in Christmas paper and was generously filled with non-perishable food items and other personal touches. It was quite a site to see cars pulling up and dropping off these Xmas boxes!
While this was going on the DCCFP team was preparing 150 bags of vegetables, 150 bags of fruit and counting out 150 3 lb. bags of potatoes. Once completed, then three vehicles were loaded with these bags. Nothing like seeing a vehicle with 150 bags of potatoes!
The ladies of DCCFP weren't done. Using their own funds they then started preparing their own Xmas gift bags. Each of the 150 bags contained socks, face masks, hand sanitizer and candy treats.
Using our $1,000 credit at Grocery Outlet of Oakley, we were able to turn that into 140 whole chickens. A representative from the store kindly delivered on Tuesday to each of the three locations.
In addition to the above, community members graciously dropped off $1020 in cash donations.
